浪石 Langshi: Listening, drawing, Sounding

This collection of work features pieces made in the mountains and river near the village of Langshi in Guilin, China from 2017 - 2018. By interacting with the rocks, water and bamboo, I developed ways of engaging with this place through interconnected methodologies of listening, drawing and sounding. In responding to elements from the Chinese literati painting tradition through experimental drawing, I reinterpreted traditional cultural practices in ways that were specific to my perceptual experiences of the atmospheric and material contingencies of present-day Langshi. The installation of these pieces in a gallery context explored the possibilities of further interactions with a new space through durational sound feedback drawing performances.
